Mr. Mastor co-founded Phoenix Capital, and today serves as its Managing Partner. Mr. Mastor is a member of the Investment Committee and is responsible for expanding investor client relationships, formulating new investment strategies and planning the long term growth of the firm.
Mr. Mastor has over 30 years of real estate, finance, acquisition, development, and asset management experience. In his 16 years at the Phoenix Capital helm, Mr. Mastor and his team deployed over $700 million of invested capital in over 177 real estate transactions. In 1993, Mr. Mastor co-founded Madison Residential Group, which developed over $175 million of luxury apartment homes in the Dallas and Austin markets. In the 1980s, Mr. Mastor was Director of Acquisitions with Centre Development, a major regional development firm, where he closed the acquisition and disposition of over $100 million of multifamily, retail, and industrial properties.
Mr. Mastor earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Tech University.
Phil has spent his entire 40-year career in professional sales and marketing, with the majority of that time in the financial services industry.
In 2004, he co-founded Epoch Investment Partners, which grew from $600 million in Assets Under Management to $25 billion when he retired in June of 2012. Fortune magazine named Epoch the 88th Fastest Growing Company in the world in their 2011 report. Epoch was sold in March 2013 to TD Bank for $670 million. Phil led the sales and marketing effort from the very beginning and was instrumental in the firm’s rapid growth.
Prior, he was a 17-year veteran of Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., now part of AllianceBernstein. His responsibilities included that of National Managing Director of Bernstein’s private client business. Previously, he was Managing Director of Bernstein’s Institutional Asset Management business and initiated and managed Bernstein’s sub-advisory business. Prior to Bernstein, Phil spent five years as President of InveQuest Securities, a family-owned investment firm focused on wealthy individuals and seven years in marketing at IBM.
Phil holds a BS in Administrative Sciences from Yale University.
Cooper Stuart is responsible for investor relations as well as fund marketing. Mr. Stuart joined Phoenix in August 2013. Throughout his career, Mr. Stuart has successfully completed over $3 billion in transactions through assisting real estate developers and operators source construction, mezzanine and equity joint venture financing.
Before joining Phoenix, Mr. Stuart served as a Managing Director of Rockwood Real Estate Advisors for the past seven years involved in debt and equity finance as well as asset sales. Prior, he served as a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s Real Estate Capital Markets Group, where his primary focus was to assist investors, developers, and operators find reliable institutional equity partners for their programmatic financing. Prior to joining E&Y, Cooper served as Executive Vice President of a Dallas-based real estate advisory firm involved in portfolio acquisitions as well as debt and equity transactions, including public offerings. Following college Mr. Stuart started his career as a sales executive at Xerox Corporation in Connecticut and New York. Following Business School, he co-founded InveQuest, a family-owned and operated investment banking firm that specialized is structuring various investments for the Fortune 500 executives.
Mr. Stuart received his Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in 1980, where he served as an Associate Board member of the Cox Business School. Mr. Stuart received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hobart College in 1974.
